OUR PROPRIETARY FRAMEWORK

The Block Performance Model™

A unified architecture for sustainable excellence.

Block Performance Model Diagram

OVERVIEW

The Block Performance Model™ is a unified framework for strengthening leadership, team, and organizational performance. It is built on a simple premise: performance is intentional. Leaders drive it. Organizations power it. Teams make it happen. When these three systems work together, organizations are better positioned to execute their strategy, accelerate progress, and sustain results. When they are misaligned, even strong individual capabilities can fall short of their full potential.

BLOCK PERFORMANCE MODEL - LEADERSHIP

Leadership Performance System™

Envision | Embody | Engage | Execute | Evolve

Develops the people who drive performance. It gives organizations a shared, practical understanding of what effective leadership looks like, from individual contributors to the C-suite. By strengthening the capabilities leaders need to set direction, engage others, execute priorities, and evolve with the business, it builds stronger leadership at every level.

BLOCK PERFORMANCE MODEL - TEAM

Team Performance System™

Align | Activate | Accelerate | Achieve

Strengthens how teams align, work together, and deliver results. It helps new, evolving, and established teams clarify direction, build trust, improve how they operate, and translate strategy into execution. The result is stronger team performance, greater accountability, and the ability to sustain momentum as priorities and conditions change.

BLOCK PERFORMANCE MODEL - ORGANIZATION

Organizational Performance System™

Strategy | Operating Model | People | Culture

Builds the conditions that allow leaders, teams, and the business to perform. It aligns strategy, operating models, talent, and culture so the organization can execute effectively, adapt to change, and support continued growth. The result is an organization better equipped to deliver today and sustain performance over time.

The Block Leadership Competency Model™

The Block Leadership Competency Model™ is a core component of the Leadership Performance System within the Block Performance Model™. Designed to address the capabilities leaders need today and in the future, it reflects research, practical experience, and insights from business leaders navigating changing markets, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and increasing organizational complexity.

Individual Contributor ➦ People Leader ➦ Functional Leader ➦ Enterprise Leader

Every competency is expressed at all four levels. Each level builds on the one before it.

Organized around five leadership domains and four leadership levels, the model defines what effective leadership looks like across the organization and how expectations evolve as leaders take on greater responsibility. Practical competencies and behavioral anchors make leadership expectations observable and actionable, creating a consistent foundation for assessing, developing, and strengthening leadership capability.

These competencies are woven into Block Performance’s leadership assessments, development programs, executive coaching, 360 feedback, talent reviews, and succession planning. Our proprietary 360 assessment provides a structured way to evaluate leadership strengths and development opportunities against the model.

The BLOCK Coaching Model™

Block Coaching Model

Every conversation is an opportunity to move people and performance forward. The BLOCK Coaching Model™ gives leaders and coaches a practical framework for turning everyday conversations and formal coaching engagements into greater clarity, stronger ownership, leadership growth, and meaningful progress.

Built around five coaching steps, three engagement modes, two starting points, and one shared goal, the model brings structure to important conversations while remaining flexible enough to meet the needs of the individual, the situation, and the organization. It can be applied when developing an employee, addressing a performance issue, navigating a difficult decision, strengthening a team, or supporting an executive through a critical transition.

The model supports professional coaching, where internal or external coaches work with individuals or teams through dedicated coaching engagements. It also supports leader-led coaching, where managers and executives use coaching as part of how they lead. In both applications, the goal is the same: build clarity, deepen understanding, expand thinking, strengthen commitment, support leadership growth, and move performance forward.

Coaching for Leaders. Coaching by Leaders.

The BLOCK Coaching Model™ is a proprietary framework that turns coaching into a practical driver of leadership growth, ownership, and performance. Its five coaching steps support both professional and leader-led coaching, while the engagement modes adapt to the role and responsibilities of the coach or leader.

They may also Add In observations or expertise when appropriate, while preserving the client’s ownership of decisions and action.

Block Performance applies the model in executive, leadership, and team coaching engagements. We also help organizations equip internal coaches, HR professionals, and other designated coaching practitioners to incorporate the framework into their coaching work.

Leader-Led Coaching

Leaders at all levels use the model to strengthen everyday conversations, develop their people, build accountability, and advance individual and team performance. They can Draw Out the other person’s thinking, Add In relevant observations or expertise, or Set Direction when clear expectations, decisions, or action are required. Even when providing direction, leaders use a coaching approach to deepen understanding, encourage learning, and strengthen ownership.

Block Performance offers practical workshops and leadership development programs that equip leaders to apply the model in real-world leadership moments, from brief conversations to more complex performance and development discussions.
